The 2006 elections are extremely important because all of Washington’s state legislators are up for re-election. This is your opportunity to make sure your representatives stand up to Big Tobacco and support legislation that will reduce the terrible toll of tobacco in Washington. Top Five Things You Can Do To Make a Difference This Election Season:As you know, the Tobacco-Free Kids Action Fund is working to elect candidates in your state who will stand up to Big Tobacco. You can help by taking action today! 1. Donate to the Tobacco-Free Kids Action Fund. By donating to the action fund you can support efforts in your state and across the nation to reduce smoking rates and protect everyone right to breathe smoke-free air. Click here to donate. 2. Spread the word! Let your friends and family know that they can help protect thousands of kids in your state from the dangers of tobacco use and secondhand smoke. 3. Call or email the candidates in your community, city and state elections. Ask them where they stand on important issues, including increasing the tobacco tax, supporting smoke-free laws and tobacco prevention and cessation programs. 4. Attend an event or candidate forum. Ask candidates how they would vote on legislation to raise your state’s tobacco tax, make all workplaces smoke-free, and increase funding for tobacco prevention and cessation programs. 5.
